I am exploring writing techinques for myself and you are invited to follow me while I
think out loud after reading what some experts have to say.

There are thousands of blogs on the worldwide web and like many of you I
seek ways to make my blogs as inviting as I can as an advocate for human
dignity in the work day, real fair trade and excavating the common good
trying to make it in a complex world like most people are these days.

What are the qualities of a good article? What attracts readers to stop
by your blog, stay awhile and come back for more.

The information in any article is the raw material. The individual style
of delivery should unfold the story and not hinder the intent behind
the story. You do not have feel a need to appear brilliant.
All you have to do is to link to the common sense of another person.

Blog writers who are advocates for some special reason, or have something
to get off their chests must take the part of the reader more than
themselves as the writer. In movies, as with stories about wars, it all comes down to
battles and the battles come down to individual soldiers living
out the drama. Movies are able to take the big picture and reduced it to a common
understanding of relationships between a few. For example, in the movie
Private Ryan , we were able to view a group of close knitted friends
fighting for a cause. In the process, we see and get to understand the big picture
of what war is all about. A scene of a battle focused on individuals living and dying
also depicts the big picture of what war is all about.

A skillful writer knows how to do this. They make it easy for the reader.
They tell their story to bring the reader into their world of thoughts.
The reader knows where the writer is coming from and notes a sincere
effort when they read a good account. A good writer who is an advocate
lets the reader know upfront where they are going with the story early
on.

They do not keep it a mystery. A good writer knows how to get out of the
way for the reader to observe in their own way where the story is going
It is like a artist standing aside of his painting while the viewer takes their
time viewing the art.

A good writer uses a voice that is consistent throughout the article and
offers a sense of rhythm to the meaning. A good writer is not writing to
a mass of people but is writing to you the reader alone. The writer
should try to reach one person at a time. Sometimes it is better to work
backwards as a writer. Start with the conclusions before using the
supporting material for any advocacy.

The writer can gather an abundance of information for their article and
then select what fits in best to catch the reader's interests. A writer
can write fragments of thoughts during the first drafts and then allow
time for them to age. During this time a writer can grade themselves on the
content.

In collecting many details, a writer could find new paths into the story
and change the entry as originally intended. They should form a continous
flow of logic from one point to another. It should be a chain of events
and not a ladder up and down of facts. The writer has to be a good
story teller and not just come off as a researcher.

There are three problems in writing what you want to say.

1. It is difficult finding a launching pad for the article. Have you
ever noticed how much easier it is to comment or respond to someone else's
articles instead of initiating the article. Perhaps , as a writer you can
state a proposition in your mind and then proceed as if you are just
commenting about it. You could even email yourself the article as if you are a
reader instead of the writer.

2. A good writer has to know what never should be put aside and know what
things should be skipped even though they sound real good to say. They
know when to insert the proper sound bites in their message and not just
put them anywhere because they seemed to be a clever comment.

3. Blog writers usually do not like to make revisions once they are on
their way writing an article especially when keying directly online.
Unfortunately, you know when your final product can be better after you
start out and sometimes you need to backtrack and start all over again.
Sometimes, you may only have to shift paragraphs around instead of doing
it all over again.

A blog writer who is an advocate should stick with action verbs if
possible. Active sentences activate reactions quickly. Sometimes it is
best to quit a certain sentence and rethink what you really want to say.
In the end, hopefully, you as a writer can give a gift of knowing to
someone a core of a problem . There is no debate
like there is in conversation and so you must find a way to speak for
the reader too. You can never win anyone over by forcing them to
understand your perspective without considering theirs. You should write this way too.

Give it a try. Speak your mind. Don't parrot what someone else is saying.
Your blog or article is way for you to let the world know that you a have something real
to pass on in a dynamic way. Let your writing live in another person as I hope mine will today.
