Deja vu economics revisited -
This is part 2 of deja-vu-economic-crisis with a letter published Dec 1 2001 by Arthur T Blech in the Cleveland Plain Dealer and it still applys today in 2009
The recession hits home, and hits hard
By Arthur T Blech,
I am a little naive (stupid? ) when it comes to economics. Will someone explain to he how exhorting people to spend and buy more will end the recession and put the unempoyed American workers back to work - since practically all merchandise in stores, is made in China, Thailand, South America, etc.?
It would seem that this would only benefit the workers in those countries, and, of course merchants and manufacturers who move their factories there. Charity begins at home: Buy American-made products- if you can find any.
--------------
Another letter published the same day was from a Michael Tarase Jr and his letter could apply to the wait many of the unemployed endure today since President Obama chose to bail out big money before finding ways to directly help those who lost their jobs and who are running of of money and still losing their homes ...
He says,
...I am unemployed, looking for a job every day, and I can't find one. ( Reportedly, one third of all over 55 who lost their jobs during this time never found another one. ) ... My unemployment benefits will end in December.
I am already going through my savings and luxuries a mortgage payments and health care, and I will soon be dipping into my IRA jst to get by. That "three to six months" is a financial life time away. ( News reports and the government economists were telling the unemployed that new jobs were coming. )
---------------
Our economies based on making money on money instead of making things are burining out and President Obama has merged big government with big money. Big government has chosen to bail out big money before worrying about those who lost their jobs with time running out for many.
President Bush took our nation's eyes off the economic problems by starting his pre-emptive wars. Now President Obama is doing the same by having people center on health care while he bails ot big money. Tariffs were taken off products. Now future generations to come will be paying tariffs for generations after all the bail outs of big money.
