Ethics Box - Exploring Personality and Character for sake of self-improvement

Tapsearch Com Editor and Artist Ray Tapajna with EthicsBox.com - studies Personality and Character for the sake of self-improvement. His mission is to probe ways for a new "Solidarity" for self, others and society under the guiding thought that each of us want to feel all together in one place at one time. It is also obvious that workers have no voice in the process of Globalization and Free Trade and hopefully the EthicsBox will prompt a change. See a posts about the "unnetted" at Bizarre Politics com and The Rationale com. Later we will get into the power of the spoken word and how all of us can improve ourselves in this discipline too. It is obvious workers have no voice in the process of Globalization and Free Trade.

Pursuing the Life Ideal (LINK)

April 9th 2008 17:50
In any formation of personality and character, we need to identify cause and effect about who we are and who we want to be. Our biological background does play a big part and science is always researching this part. We do see traits in ourselves and others that suggest that we do inherits certain traits but science is still studying this part too . We do know environment plays a big role too but we know that this part can be altered even though the circumstances seem to say it is impossible.

In the global economic arena today, we find we need to quickly decide what ethical road we want to take. Raw Capitalism calls for a gladiator type existence. We need to ask if we want to surrender to this condition or take the higher ground no matter what. Do we do it to others before they do it to us or do we do to others as we would want them to do to us? This is the question of our times. To be or not to be rests on our response.

Our response flows from our environment in which we live and the examples that surround us. The examples will often be decidely bad examples. We find that pursuing our Life Ideal will often set us apart and draw the hostility of the secretly envious upon us. This we find will tend to discourage us. It may incline us to give up the struggle or waste many years finding out who we really want to be. Much of our movies we see today depict this struggle with many subcumbing to the worst case situations.

It takes courage to gage the trouble before it comes and prepare for it. When the trouble comes and is thus expected, half the force of the trouble is lost. We need set this in concrete ---
All that anyone really wants is a feeling of being completely together in one place.

We need to pray for holy indifference especially when circumstances take us by surprise. This prayer of holy indifference does not mean we go into denial but it means we are ready to take on any event following the examples of Perfect Love of God. Everyone who is interested in building up personality and character into a worthwhile life ideal must have a basic philosophy of life. Life is a garden. It needs to be cultivated or weeds will take over. We need to use means of goodness to achieve goodness and know that the accepting the least evil is still accepting evil into our lives.

Prayer is a powerful tool. Even NASA scientists are studying seemingly supernatural occurences as perhaps not being that supernatural. Perhaps there are fields of praying power that contain more natural powers than we would expect. Calling out to the Divine might be a power in itself. Ask God for both the supernatural or natural conclusion with a holy indifference. Try this - pray for place where a love one will soon be for a holy conditions in the surroundings. Husbands stand by the sink where your wife will soon be when she comes home for the place to be a holy place just because she will be there under the power of love that you both had for each other when you chose her to be your wife. Wifes can do the same. See what happens.

Imagination tune up (LINK)

March 24th 2008 23:46
Here's another exercise for you. View the image and let the imagination take over. Take in the words and imagine growing better and better in everyway.
Imagination Tune Up:

Getting better and better every day
Every moment in everyway, I am getting better and better in everyway

I CAN DO IT!

There is also the power of "holy indifference" we can pray for to guard us against the suprises in living experiences. It helps us know we can react better no matter what someone says or does in a surprising way - good or bad.

Here is a secret of "understanding yourself" and understanding others. Reconstruct a "friendly imagination" A "friendly imagination" has power. It has power to raise you up and others will seem to think you have some deep insights over the great tragicomedy of life.
Know that time is a healer. Know that you can come up to the plate that you can reach into the moments full of life.

A "friendly imagination" generates new insights. It can also generate emotions within us favorable to all we meet. It can generate a powerful driving force to wish others well being and that well being become like a bee flying from flower to flower. Others will experience a favorable emotion towards us. In this way a reciprocal benevolence can transform everything in its path.

But this "friendly imagination" must be geniune. It can not be a put on. Few things are more repellent as the perception of false emotion and in using others for selfish gains. An accomplished actor can not act "as if", but must for the moment really feel the emotion to be portrayed. In the process we are overhauled in our own thinking in relations to others. Something better than ever surfaces. Somewhere along the line, we are transformed too.
We move into the full potential of who we are and our personality and character grows better too - sometimes without even knowing it.

View the banner above again and just take in for awhile each day. Take it in before going into an important meeting or even before going home to your spouse and family.

Tap the power of imagination (LINK)

March 21st 2008 22:41
This follows our last post about a "friendly imagination".

The imagination is a powerful gift. It is a creative tool you can use in many ways for yourself and others. Children have a great insight into this power and use it in play and story telling. As adults we tend to neglect it. We could use it in a "friendly imagination" way just observing others in those quiet waiting times in dentist or doctor's office or in our commuting back and forth from work on the transit system. You can use it prior to a major sales call or meeting to just relax into the possible sequence of events. The imagination can be supplied with plenty of material and background triggers. The imagination is primarily reproductive and therefore it must have something to reproduce. A person developing a "friendly imagination" must have an awareness of what affects other people and also police what affects oneself. Being aware of the triggers, makes it easier to add a positive spin to most anything. The habit of attention, observation, concentration must be cultivated so that the imagination can draw , either to reproduce or to recreate.

The imagination can not be totally set free to do imagine anything it wants. The will has to step in to sort out the good and the bad images. No one can tell what image will appear and the will has to police the operation. The moment one relaxes just a bit, the imagination goes off on its own. A certain power of control has to be exercised. Images can affect our personality in both a good and bad way. If we take in a wrong image, we do our personalities harm. For example, if one spouse is watching another spouses wandering glances, they could create a mountain of harmful images. Emotions start playing a part.
If one is happy, bouyant, joyful then the imagination presents pleasant images and vice versa. When one is down or feeling depressed, it is good mental health exercise , to fill the mind with uplifting images. One can develop a clever use of the imagination in the process.

The contribution of imagination to personality is tremendous. Good speakers know this. A good conversationalist can communicate a vivid picture in words to listeners. The personality reaps benefits from this in many ways on both ends of the conversation. It provides a way for us to understand others. People do not like each other if they fail to understand each other. It takes an imagination to evaluate themselves too with a listening ear. The secret of understanding others may well be called a "friendly imagination". The ability to reconstruct something of the interior of a person's life, their secrets, their terrors, is indirect proportion to imaginative power. People become kindly when they are treated kindly. Human nature has a way of rising to the occasion and we tend to like and even love people who make us rise. We can supply a kind of personality atmosphere to people we are just meeting. It is surprising how much they become what we expect them to be.

Our study of a "friendly imagination" will continue with the next post.

A friendly imagination (LINK)

Imagine you and me and what we can do together for the common good
In exploring personality and character, the imagination plays a very important part. Of all the four internal senses, imagination seems to have most to do with personality. Imagination is the faculty that gives us life and color, variety and resource not only in our mental life but in the operation of divine influences. Even our abstract thoughts depend on our imagination. Low intelligence is often the basis of a dull imagination. The good thing about imagination, is that you can stimulate and grow it. In fact it is sometime said that the large part of the science of mental hygiene is connected with the management of the imagination.

All anyone wants is to have a feeling of being all together in one place at one time. Time tells us we are here on earth on a temporary basis but still we yearn for more. We want to know where we were and where we are going.

One must know the basic facts of his life's progress in order to direct it. We are the director of our life ideal. We also know we are finite and limited in many ways and look for other entities that are not. We need to trust and cooperate with our creator and hopefully receive grace or something extra we do not have in the process

Solidarity Fragmented (LINK)

Ethics Box is supposed to be about exploring personality and character but frankly it is difficult knowing where to start. If we start with the Dale Carnegie approach on how win friends and influence people, the question of motivation remains. If we go into a similar approach with the bibilical approach - "do unto others has you would have them do to you" as in the Gabriel Richard courses, the question still remains.

In attempting to get started, I re-read parts of Jacque Maritain, Dorothy Day, Peter Maurin, Mother Theresa and the Life Ideal course by Father McQuade. They all are very good but how do we relate this to living in a very competitive world. A boss will tell you, all that idealism is great but it does not put bread on the table. I read a study early on in my work career that 70 percent say they can not connect their workday with their spirituality. I am ending my workdays knowing it is true

Failure to communicate (LINK)

February 15th 2008 22:16
We have the internet and worldwide communications and yet many have no voice in the process itself, nor do they have a voice in Globalization and Free Trade. With Free Trade the main commodity being traded are human beings and not products. Workers are "commoditized". Production and farming shifts from place to place based on who will do the work for less and there is an endless pool of cheap labor.

The Free Traders use Adam Smith as their "economic philospher" but Adam Smith held labor as something sacred and the core of societies. His concepts were based on doing things right for the sake of labor

The role of God?

The role of God?

Today I will talk about the role of religion in ethics. Because this is a large topic today I will simply introduce the main themes. Firstly I will need to say a little about what religion is then I will look at how various religions are related to ethics and finish by mentioning what I see as the most controversial issues in religious ethics today.
