Trade deals double cross workers

When it comes to free trade, there is only one political party in the USA. It should be called the Free Trade Party and put both major political parties in the USA in their proper category.

What's what in the latest trade deals - and what is and what isn't an export

This is based on a letter to the editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that endorsed the Korea trade agreement - by Alan Ross, Cleveland, Ohio

Ford send the manufacturing of engines to Mexico and cuts out U.S. workers in the process. Now the question arises where is this Ford made. It is a U.S. brand that will be called what - It can not be labeled Made in the USA. It is a free trade economic monster. They most likely will label it as being Built in the USA. But should it be called that. Is it an export, if it is shipped out of the country?

Alan Ross the letter writer goes deeper into the free trade mess. Honda cars are labled built in the USA but God only knows where the components come from or what is really machined in the USA. It would take a fact finding committee in Congress to figure these things out. Reportedly after all is said and done 60 percent of the car's price goes back to Tokyo.

And here is another story behind this story.
The state of Indiana working taxpayers paid Honda millions of dollars to build their assembly plant in their state. It created about 5,000 new jobs but no one tells how many middle class auto workers lost their jobs in recent times. Here is the clincher - During this time period , about 20,000 auto workers lost their jobs in Indiana. This is how free trade works.

Alan Ross in his letter says - If you spend money on these Asian cars, you have no right whatsoever to complain about our current economy.

What is the ethics behind all of this?

Actually, free trade is the root cause of our economic crisis and nothing will stop the economic race to the bottom until someone says, Just Stop It!
