Job hunting in never, never land
The hunt for jobs in never never land. President Obama, the new president in never never land, bails out the financial community that caused the economic mess. Our economy based on making money on money instead of making things has burned out. Those who lost their jobs due to investors making money instead of making things are outside looking in at a new economy which does not include them. Companies are employing lesser and lesser workers. They make money by exporting jobs to other lands.
Now we have a throw away economy in more ways than one. It throws away workers with the throw away products. President Obama initiates a way to buy new cars by destroying old ones. Foreign auto makers enjoy the stimulus package this way too. The auto part stores and junk yards take a hit as a result. It's a new way to smash small U.S. businesses. And those who can not afford to buy a new car lose a chance on buying something they can afford as thousands of old cars are destroyed.
Free trade was supposed to switch the U.S. economy to a service industry and high technology but it is cheaper to buy new and throw the old away as junk yards fill up across America. High tech is still here but the production phase is gone somewhere else with more than a million workers in the computer industry losing their jobs. Calling for support for a computer and other electronic devices sets you on a course to never never land too. Sometimes a call for support takes you to a far east call center. This means many services jobs have gone to never never land just like the production jobs did. In New Jersey, the welfare department uses these call centers to service those who have nothing left. The state saves money by using support centers in India. Food Stamps are now a norm for a major percentage of our population. Retail workers in places like Wal-mart need alot of government assistance to survive.
I worked in several factories while going to college full time. I made the equivalent of About $15 to $20 an hour back then. All these factoires are gone. If these jobs were available today there would be thousands standing in line to get them including college graduates.
They also said there would be new jobs in communications but only a few make it in this field too. There seems to be a growing lack of communications between those on top with those on the bottom. Also is obvious that workers really have no voice in any of these matters that are decided way up there on high in our new never never land.
We now have the labor ready jobs where temporary agencies tell employers things like this:
No need to worry about Social Security or Workers Compensation
No Federal Unemployment Tax
No State Unemployment Tax
No life insurance costs
No pension plan costs
No administration costs
No help wanted advertising needed
Labor ready workers are available at any time- temporary offices offer 24 hour service , 7 days a week for employers to call at any time. Employers only pay by the hour with the temporary offices dispatching workers as early as requested .
These jobs are on call at any time. See Same old song about restoring jobs
President Obama says there will be good jobs in the new energy saving field which he proposes to fund with federal money. However like all the other jobs in the USA today, the production of component parts will most likley go the same way as all the other jobs. They will go to a place where labor is cheaper and even the above labor ready jobs will not compete with the labor markets of the world. President Obama is a good communicator. President Bush knew how to bait and switch a deal and President Clinton said it all depends on what your definition of "is" is, Welcome to never never land.
