Representative Marci Kaptur wins support from unusual places.
Former U.S. Senator, Cleveland Mayor and former Governor of Ohio, a Republican Conservative, George Voinovich says he won't officially endorse a candidate in the Democratic primary for a new congressional district between Cleveland and Toledo Ohio since he is a Republican and not a Democrat.
But he says he is serving as a "reference" for Toledo's Marcy Kaptur who has been a long time congresswoman and a long time advocate for workers dignity.
I have written about her many times too. Search under Ray Tapajna Marcy Kaptur, Tapsearch Marcy Kaptur or tapsearcher Marcy Kaptur for thousands of references.
Senator Voinovich says, "I am acting as a reference and verifying that I think she would make an outstanding Congress member for this area, as she has been an outstanding Congress member from Toledo, understanding that she is a Democrat and I am a Republican, " Voinovich said.
Ross Perot wanted her to be his running mate when he ran for President and she is still is not hesitant about telling all how free trade has failed us all. She still uses the terms NAFTA and GATT which stand for the unfair trade agreements that were passed by President Clinton. She confronted him many times about this life changing event for American workers. It betrayed them. A new working poor class has replaced a vast part of the middle class since then.
This is what I wrote in 2001,
Free trade policies weaken America
.... Free trade is based on moving production from place to place based on the lowest common denominator of cheaper and cheaper labor. It is not based on trading products per se. ( It will continue to be a race to the bottom since there are more than a billion people in the world who are willing to work for practically nothing.)
When much of our added value economy is moved outside the United States, ( and this applies to all countries in the world as we are seeing now.)
what will take its place in supporting our entitlements, culture and society?
The real issue of our times is to admit that free trade is a complete disaster and that be must bring back factories and real jobs to this country. It is time to bring back the American Dream as we once knew it.
