Self-Knowlege leads the way to your life ideal

By Ray Tapajna, Editor and Artist at Tapart News and Art that Talks

Breakdowns in life follow the breakdown of our life ideal. We grow up pursuing our life ideal and the collapses in adult life are due to the adoption of something other than our life ideal. The breakdowns are sometimes beyond the power of the individuals concerned. For example, a student who sets everything they have on a straight A average , completely ignoring the facts that is intelligent quota does not warrant his pursuit may literally sacrifice everything to get it. The obession of getting a straight A average brings down real life ideal being plagued with a sense of failure. What is that particular thing that could upset your life ideal?

In setting up our life ideal, we must plug in what is only possible and that in a sense how others have done it but as who we are. Self-knowlege is the key. We can then be sure, with a good degree of certitude, we can excel in the manner fit to " just who I am".

A person who tends to be active, will most likely never form an ideal of contemplation. Even if he did, the qualities of contemplation would not be there. There is really no universal life ideal for all to pursue. So all must be cautious about what others say a particular life ideal should be for them. It must be an ideal that can be realized. The life ideal must be possible to attain. It should be adaptable to unexpected circumstances.

However there are universal requirements for a life ideal. It must be about morality. We can not build on something that is not good. As in art, all things must be true to itself. To have an ideal that is not in conformity with human nature - that is something that is against the norm of morality, will not endure. A man whose ideal is wealth and power by any means automatically perverts any life ideal from the start. Human beings can not follow the laws of the jungle. They must be in harmony with the universal understanding of morality.

The life ideal should be useful. A life ideal should be directed towards making the life of an individual better. The life ideal should conform to the needs of others. "Rugged Individualism" certainly limits this priority in life. Also a life ideal of permanent and undisturbed tranquility would be a false one, for life in one way or another demands something of a sacrifice of self for others. Everyone can make some contribution to the common good of those with whom he lives. T he biblical saying of do unto others as you would have them do you works in a practical ways too and is not something reserved for only spiritual pursuits.

Our life ideal should be thought of as being permament but also we should know that occasional modifications have to take place here and there for nothing on earth remains the same. Time does not stand still. Some times we also find out that we bit off more than we can chew. However, we should know when we change our life ideal, we should do it in a manner where we do not have to start from the beginning all over again. Obviously , the adoption of a particular life ideal must not be made hastily. Once it is made with care, it should not be changed lightly.

My life ideal was based on my father's life ideal in a simple phrase - do what you are doing because that is what you have to do. In other words, life hands you the particular duties to serve with many of the duties coming in unexpected ways. I knew from a very early age that tough unexpected things happen and I had to meet all challenges with the same determination of my father. He was left a widower with three small children. In the end, any life ideal contains the elements worth living for under any condition.

Calmly and deliberately, we must try our best to find out just what the actual life ideal is, with its good and bad points, without glossing overanything. Then with an eye on what is possible , moral, useful and permanent, we can build that ideal into what it should be. Self knowlege is the ultimate tool. When others seem to ignore you is a good time to find out why, and to look for that reason not in others but in ourselves.
