Living in an Economic Parallel Universe

By Ray Tapajna at 1000s of Tapsearch Com sites

Are we living in a Economic Parallel Universe - Most in politics and in the news media have evidently put on blinders when they go out the door.

I get up and read the morning newspaper and feel like I am living in a parallel universe. What is happening on the street is different from what is reported.

President Obama came into our town to talk to a group of small business owners. Everything he said had a segment of truth in it but nothing seem to apply to what is really happening. I have sixty plus years of work experience - with about 50 percent in my own businesses and the other working for major corporations primarily in the computer industry. I was a trouble shooter supplyer for major corporations for many years and as a result witnessed thousands of both small and large companies going out of business due to free trade.

President Obama like so many others in the political or news world never mentions free trade as being the major cause of our economic mess. For more than fifteen years, they keep talking about restoring our economy but nothing much happens as things get worst.

President Obama stimulus package was all about bailing out big money and big businesses related to big investments interests. He bailed them out but ignored the suffering of all who lost their jobs and businesses due to free trade.

As usual in meetings like this, some director of the Small Business Administration is there to show their efforts. In my many years in business, I never was able to connect with their programs and always wondered who did. I

The same applys to bidding for business with government. I tried a few times but my cost of bidding was usually more than I would be able to make on the job or contract. I got a few small orders, but my efforts to get them did not add up in time and energy.

While business owners waited for President Obama to show up, an underemployed demonstrater positioned himself as close as security would allow and hope his message would get the President's attention. The message said "Dear President Obama, If I set myself on fire....would you notice? A business consultant and participant in President Obama's small-busines forum asked the demostrater why he could not find work.
They had a discussion about the scarity of jobs for educators and how working for sub-minimum wages for such a long time , crushed his confidence.

This is happening across our land and the unemployment reporting is fiction with the term underemployment losing its meaning. All you have to do is walk out of your door and not put blinders on as so many in the political and news world are.

There was another article that rated the facts about our state often exceeds the rest of the U.S. on joblessness. Stephen Koff, Plain Dealer Washington Bureau Chief did the follow up fact finding about this statement as being true and false. He had alot to say but not once question a basic premise about the validity of our unemployment rate which some saying is really about 25 percent. With all things considered, temporary, contract, casual labor, leased etc jobs, there is really no way to measure unemployment as it was reported in the past.

This I do know, the U.S. has gone throught he most massive dislocation of jobs in history including the Great Depression with millions of workers losing their jobs in the past years due to free trade and no one talking about it.
Those who lost their jobs or business due to free trade, were promised help but virtually no help came.... with exception of big money interests who were bailed out because of it. Many were put back in charge who caused the problems in the first place.

The statistic that stand out in my mind is this one. If only 38 percent of all workers in the U.S. qualify for unemployment insurance, this means 62 percent are living in economic limbo. It would be reasonable to pursue to answers related to this fact, but no one is doing it - not event the fact finders who seem to want to rate everything else but that.

Evidently we live in two different worlds
