Labor news that no one talks about
This is by Paul Donovan a long time steel worker who gave everything he had to make the American Dream work.
Our local newspaper chose to ignore his letter and did not pubish it or report about things like this.
The American Steelworker was sold out by compromising local union
officials, salaried international union reps, the entire AFL-CIO salaried public
unions, and last but not least, the last three International Presidents,
(Lynn Williams, George Bricker, and Leo Gerard) who are Canadian Textile
workers. Their allegiance was to NAFTA & GATT, along with Clinton and the
Democratic controlled 103rd Congress, in 1993. Gerard, and the entire
International Executive Board, was sworn into office in Toronto, Canada on March 2, 2002.
These men disgraced the memory of dedicated union leaders who in the
thirties put their lives on the line to represent the "little guy." In 1982,
after seeing the Corporation's books that showed the percentage of profit
from a Wendy's hamburger exceeding a ton of steel, the union put politics
ahead of the truth and failed to join forces with the corporation to fight the
World Trade Organization. Since 1982, the membership of Steelworkers went
from 600,000 to about 25,000.
Legal politics without morality is treason. A successful politician
today must tell the people what they want to hear and disregard the truth
to stay in office. It was always better to trust the Corporation more than
the Rank and File for two reasons: one knowing the Labor agreement, but more importantly, knowing the difference between right and wrong. The
Government leads the list of the most guilty, followed by the Union and last but not least, the Corporation. This is not to say the Corporation is
blameless but most of the full-interrogated mills have gone out of business due to free trade that isn't fair trade to reduce the World's capacity of basic
steel. The American steelworker was the odd man out. What a shame this has happened. Steel corporations like LTV did not really know how to make steel. LTV was more of a financial investment corporation
Deceptive local union officials said NAFTA and GATT was "George
Bush's baby." The Supreme Court ruled that Corporations need not bargain with retirees on any future compensation. From 1982 contracts could no longer be negotiated on any projected inflationary spiral, but solely profit and loss. It is the duty of the Union to represent the innocent and not the
guilty. I worked from 1950-1991 and only reaped the benefits, the struggles and sacrifices of the union leaders and rank and file union members of
the thirties. A union card doesn't make a union man, but what comes from
the heart certainly does. In the end, I now have to depend on my pensions coming from the Federal Insurance Agency. And this government agency is going broke too.
The children of today can't get an industrial hourly job like those
of my age because they have been surgically removed by salaried union bosses and salaried government officials. We have adversely affected union
members going away from meetings with more questions than answers. The union bosses can't tell the truth and it certainly grieves my heart.
The truth is the jobs are gone forever. And each of these jobs represented at least a value of a million dollars each. The value of workers has been degraded and actually it is more of a real money standard than paper money itself. But, the globalist free traders chose to make money on money instead of making things and as we can readily see, this money changer economy has burned out.
